Not to make light of the tornado situation, but this is pretty funny:

24 weeks on!

I'm really starting to show nowadays. And I don't think I've ever been this uncomfortable in my life. I had a reeeeally easy time of pregnancy in the beginning. No morning sickness or anything, which was great. But I think I'm making up for it now with my hips and sciatic nerve. It's not just back pain. In fact, my back is fine. But I'm in nearly constant pain down my left side starting at my high hip and going through my rear and down a little ways into my leg at times. Awesome, huh? I got a body pillow, but so far it hasn't really helped. I'm going to get a mattress pad and see if that'll take some of the pressure off of my hips at night. I think that's a main part of the problem. Anyway. I'm tired of my leg giving out randomly because it hurts so bad, which sounds dumb but it's true. So we'll see if this helps.

I can't wait for Chad to come home tomorrow!! He's been in Austin this week on the last part of his application/interview with the Austin Police Department. He took a polygraph and passed, had a psychological interview with the department psychologist, and then did a physical, stress test, drug test, and finger printing today. Which means that he's finally DONE!!! And tonight he also fiiiinally gets to go on a ride-along! He's going with a family friend in the department who's been helping Chad through the process. So that'll be way cool :) He's excited.

Have a nice day everyone! It's finally warm and pretty here in Provo. For once. Literally. We keep getting these freak winter storms, such as the one coming through tomorrow that's supposed to bring snow for the next two days. Oh well. Today's nice and warm, the tulips are popping up all over the place, and I don't have class today. I'll take it.

I love my job. Which is funny, because all I do is clean the Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum.

5 examples of why my job rocks:

  1. We have "eating meetings," aka our weekly training meeting. But really the training part lasts ten minutes (at most), everyone brings food for everyone to share, and we get paid to have a good time (for half an hour every Friday). And sometimes we make up words like the one in the title.
  2. During one of these eating meetings, one of the animal handlers poked her head into our office and asked, "Do you guys have anything that'll get lizard poop out of carpet?" hehe :)
  3. I was once asked by a very cute (and obviously very rich) little girl if I was "the cleaning lady."
  4. This morning, the adorable little old man who says good morning to me (usually about three times in rapid succession) found a bat on the wall in his upstairs office. Clark the woodshop guy took a butterfly net up to catch it, but soon discovered that it was dead, dried, and still clinging to the wall. Clark does a good dead-bat-impression-face :)
  5. I have the nicest boss in the world. Really.

One example why my job on the rare occasion doesn't rock:

  1. We hold events at the museum sometimes for which we have to set up tables and chairs and stuff. Last night, the the night crew set up for one of these events going on today and didn't clean the chairs (which are outdoor/indoor and very poorly stored in between uses). That meant I got to scoot around on my knees with a bottle of glass cleaner and a rag and clean 61 folding chairs by hand. By myself (because I'm awesome enough to get my own shift). 5 months PREGNANT. But oh well. At least I got an extra hour on the clock today :)

See? Wouldn't you love your job too?

PS. 23 weeks!
Chad felt him move for the first time yesterday. Yay! :D He's getting so good at kicking! Strong little guy. Maybe he'll be a soccer player.

Have a great day!

22 weeks and a fieldtrip

4.15.2011

Just a quickie 'cause I have to get studying. Two finals back to back on Saturday! Booooo.

We're 22 weeks on:

Baby, fetus at 22 weeks - BabyCenter
And I'm still not showing a ton. But I'm ok with that. My visiting teachers came over the other and couldn't believe how small my belly still was. And dang it, I was proud of how much I'm showing, too! I told Chad about it later and he goes, "I'm sorry babe. Well I think you're huge!" haha.

Went to a turkey production facility yesterday, and a turkey farm and a lambing operation. No pictures from the production facility. You don't want any anyways. But here're some videos from everywhere else.

Turkey farm: brooder barn; these chicks were almost brand new, and they were adorable. (PS. some of these clips are a lot longer than I realized when I was taking them, so feel free to not finish them)

Playing with the camera string:

This was the most horrendous smelling thing of my life. I was breathing through my shirt and this was the best video I could get because I was trying not to pass out.

If it looks like the cameras shaking, that's because it was. I was scared whateverless. Those turkeys are forty pounds each, aggressive, and they didn't want us there. But it was reeeeally cool walking through them. And when you make any kind of loud call (whistle, turkey, chicken, whatever), they all call back! But that videos taking forever to load, so it might show up later.

I'll post about the lambs later. Fun fieldtrip, but I definitely wouldn't want to do it again. Nastiest places ever.

Happy weekend!

Just life and stuff

The trees are FINALLY blooming! Provo has lots of pretty flowery trees that have pretty buds on them, and I’m starting to see some little green buds on all the rest :D

My neighbor is absolutely incapable of speaking to his year-old son in a normal, not-annoying voice. He sounds like Peewee Herman, only more guttural. Or sometimes an octave higher, but still guttural. At first, it was endearing. Now it mostly makes me want to strangle him. I’m surprised his wife hasn’t already. I told Chad I would strangle him if he talked to our son that way on any kind of consistent basis. Or occasional basis for that matter.

I got stuck talking to a crazy, crazy, crazy guy on the bus the other day. Highlights of our conversation:
  • All of his ex-wives and –girlfriends were following him around, but something had happened to his memory so he didn’t know who they were, but they were following him and wanting to get back together with him all the time.
  • The radio waves were changing his vision. He thought it all started when he went into the army at 18 and he wasn’t allowed to have any kind of memory because he wasn’t allowed to know what he was working on or remember anything about what he was working on. He was trying to figure it all out, and he was pretty certain he had studied medicine, sociology, psychology, etc.
I got off the bus quickly and quietly while he was occupied trying to figure out why he had gotten on the bus in the first place and where he was going.

My international business professor basically told the entire class we all got A’s. Whoopee!!

I get to go play with lambs tomorrow :) But I also have to go to a turkey farm, which has a very stinky reputation. Pictures to follow.

My wonderful Mom and sister put together the most bodacious goody box I’ve ever, ever received. Some of its wondrous contents:
  • Maternity clothes (HALLELUJAH!!!!!!), including a Bella Band!!!! (Double Hallelujah!!!)
  • LOTS of baby boy clothes! and a couple baby girl bubble suits to hang on to for later :D
  • A beautiful antique table runner
  • New mascara and grapefruit lip gloss
  • A how-to-crochet CD with videos and everything! (Amigurumi here I come!)
  • Stellaluna!! (one of my favorite books when I was a kid)
  • Miami Ink Socks (hilarious; I think Chad might be jealous)
  • This Get Fuzzy comic that nearly had Chad and I both in tears:

Best box ever. Chad’s part of the goody box comes when he gets to go to Texas (without me I might add) and stay with my family and borrow a book from my Mom that he’s been wanting to read for a long time. Lucky twerp. Not to mention he doesn't have to hear me whine anymore about how I don't fit into my own clothes.
;)

Happy Wednesday!

21 weeks

4.07.2011

Notice how the baby in the picture has braced himself and looks like he's pushing against his mom's bladder? Yeah. I feel your pain, lady. ;)

Our baby's now 21 weeks along! And, I might add, getting very good at kicking. Sometimes I think he aims right at my bladder. I love feeling him move though. He usually gets pretty busy a little before Chad and I go to bed and whenever I'm sitting scrunched up.

I only just started really showing, but here are some belly pics for comparison:

And the promised stroller and car seat pics. I'm pretty excited about the stroller. I miss running! Can't wait until we can actually use this:

Thanks Grandma Mc and Mom Jones! We decided to skip the whole travel system thing and instead go with a good jogging stroller and convertible car seat from the beginning. We'll use one of these:

...until the kid's big enough to chill in the stroller by himself. I'm all about lightweight travel anyway. I hate lugging around bulky stuff, so this'll be nice.

Hope you're all having a good week! As soon as I write four more papers, give a presentation, and take three finals, I'll be peachy. Chad's in pretty much the same boat. Only he's got a capstone paper thrown in there as well. We're just keeping our sights on August. It's going to be a good month. We're trading in school for diplomas and a newborn :) And maybe even Texas soon after!

Meet our...

Little boy :)

We had our 20 week ultrasound! And it was so cool! This was the best profile shot we could get because he had his face right up against the placenta. In fact, he wasn't too compliant with being bothered for good views at all, haha. It took the ultrasound tech forever to get a gender shot cause he had his legs stretched out and his ankles crossed. Exactly how Chad relaxes :)

Anyway, here are some pictures from the ultrasound.

 Arm

 Feet

 Legs and crossed ankles

Umbilical cord blood flow. Cool, huh?

Oh man. That was such a cool experience. Most of these pictures are screen shots from video the tech gave us of our ultrasound. Isn't that so cool? I've watched it about a million times since Thursday :)

We're having a little boy!!! And we couldn't be more happy or excited.

Happy Conference weekend everyone!

Gotta love April Fools
