Harry Potter in 99 Seconds

7.27.2011

This is basically the coolest thing I've ever seen. Thanks to Katelynn for showing us this weekend :)

Chad's family came up this weekend and we watched this a couple times 'cause it rocks. It was really nice to spend the weekend with them, but I forgot to take pictures. I always forget to take pictures. Need to get better at that. I think our baby boy might help me fix that problem :) I'm pretty sure I won't be able to stop when he comes. Anyway, they came bearing gifts, namely a whole bunch of awesome baby stuff that Chad's mom made/found on really good deals and--miracle of miracles--a set of wheels upon which to get to the hospital when I go into labor.

We still don't have our own car, and getting to the hospital was obviously one of the biggest worries we had. Like lose-sleep-over-this worry. We'd been renting cars through Hertz on Demand, but renting a car for a couple-hour doctor's appointment is a little different from needing transportation for a couple days while we live at the hospital, and then frequently afterwards for check-ups and trips to the store since I'm not going to be up to walking to Smith's anymore (which, by the way, I think I'm pretty awesome for still doing at 8+ months preggo. Just sayin'.). But I'm pretty sure it's a bad idea to try that with a newborn anyway. So, we're borrowing Chad's dad's old work truck for a couple months. Woohoo! Chad's little sister Devery named him Carter, but I'm liking Maximus while he's with us.

See? Maximus. You're feeling it too. Any Chevy Silverado with 200,000+ miles on it that's still going strong merits the name I think. Heck, just any Chevy Silverado. I lurve them. My dad's have always been awesome trucks too.

Awesome baby stuff:

Kinda blurry, but cool huh? Chad's mom made the blankets, burp cloths, and nursing cover.

Minky! Soooo soft... This is especially cool because I had really wanted to make one of these, but alas, I've not a sewing machine. One day...

Awesome burp cloths. A nod to Chad here: he picked out the fabrics for the burp cloths and the nursing cover for me when I wasn't there, and I love them all. He knows me so well.

I love seersucker!

Sweet basket chock full of baby goodies. Isn't that awesome? We so appreciate everything both our families are doing for us. I can't even say how much. Thank you to everyone for all you've done!

Haircut

7.20.2011

I got a haircut yesterday! And it was high time too. I apologize in advance for the mannequin face in these; I never know what to do with myself when I'm taking my own picture...

Are you diggin' the 70's shag in the before?

It's a little worse for wear in that last one; we walked to the bank, and it started raining the last couple of blocks before home.

But anyway, I love it! Not that it'll ever look that good again. Hairdressers have a magical way of doing your hair that you can never recreate. Of course, afterwards I looked up the prices of some of the stuff she used, and for almost-11-ounce bottles of the shampoo and conditioner she used it was $30. Each. And then another $30 (for 5.1 ounces) for the argan oil she used. Plus something else that made my hair shiny and soft, which probably costs another limb or semi-vital organ. So yes. My hair won't ever look quite that pampered again. And I'm ok with that. Don't think I could sleep at night if I spent that kind of money on hair stuff. I'll stick with my $3 shamp and conditioner, thank you.

J Dawg's, Duck Pond, and 8 month belly shots

7.19.2011

We went to J Dawg's last night. We looooove J Dawg's. And, in an attempt at the impossible (aka to satiate the insatiable and placate the implacable... MOM), we took pictures.

Flattering, no?
Chad's polish dog: dog, ketchup, bun. = Chad's perfect dog.

My polish dog: dog, ketchup, mustard, pickle spears, bun. = my personal heaven.

We split a beef dog with ketchup and J Dawg's sauce, which is a little too sweet for a whole dog but perfect on a half. Highly recommended.

We also went to the duck pond south of campus to take my 8 month belly shots. Because heck yes I was 8 months along as of yesterday exactly! Woohoo!! He's finally getting big enough that it's a little harder for him to move around. Last night though, holy moley. He did a full body flail or flipped over with gusto or something. That was the mostly incredible thing I've ever felt. He did it all the time when he was smaller, but not in a long while. And it definitely feels different when they're 5.5ish pounds and not one or two.

Just about everything on me is swollen, including my face, hands, and feet. I even went to Old Navy yesterday and bought church flipflops. Delightfully tacky, eh? My bright blue, extremely grungy ones just weren't cutting it anymore. I tried wearing my normal church shoes this last Sunday and it took hours for the lines to disappear from my feet. I can't wear my engagement ring at the moment, but I can still manage my wedding band. And my face... well, let's just say I'm feeling less than delicate nowadays.

Pictures from the pond:

Ducklings!

Chad trying to look too cool for school.

That's better :)

Turtles!

It was a fun time. Just fyi though: don't try to take a picnic to the pond on a warm day. Lots of ducks = lots of duck smells. You lose your appetite pretty quick, especially when you're pregnant. And it's an exercise in futility to throw bread for them. They get fed so much. We're convinced that their scuz at the bottom of the pond is made purely of all the bread they couldn't eat. But anyway.

Have a nice Tuesday!

34 weeks and baby stuff

7.11.2011

So Chad and I did a count the other night, and over the next two months, 7 babies will be born in our ward. 7! Plus two that were just born in the last month. Technically, one of those seven just moved out of the ward, but I think he still counts.

A little late, but here's what's going on:

According to babycenter, he's bulking up and his lungs are well developed. Woohoo!

When he wiggles around, my stomach changes shape pretty drastically. It's neat :) I was up eating cereal at 1am the other morning and I had my hand on my stomach (it's kind of a reflex when he's moving around). Normally I can just feel bumps and stuff poking out and shifting around, but that time I felt a whole leg! It was amazing! Part of his leg anyway. It's hard to describe, but I was definitely feeling a limb and not just an ambiguous bump. So cool.

He's a lot more interactive now too. A lot of the time if I poke my stomach he'll poke back. Or if I start rubbing a place he'll start pushing against where I'm rubbing. I try that a lot when he pressing against my belly button or just down the middle of my stomach, which is definitely painful. If I try rubbing somewhere else, he'll usually move over and start pushing there instead. That all means that Chad can play with him now too. He loves that :)

My sister sent me an awesome box the other day! Its contents: 4 crib sheets that she made (my sister's a sewing wizard), a Snugli, an Avent breast pump and bottles and everything, and a ton more baby clothes. We also finally got a crib and set it up! The first one we bought we had to return because one of the legs wouldn't fit on (can't remember if mentioned that on here already). This one we found on Amazon for about $20 cheaper than what BabiesRus was selling it for. And then Amazon ran out of them a couple days later. Way good timing.

Here're some pics of all our stuff.

The crib!

Nice cherry color:

Our huge stockpile of clothes (which about tripled when my sister sent her last box :)

Diaper arsenal:

Little basket of some baby things:

3 of the sheets Erin made:
 So cute, huh?!

Sheet number 4:

Awesome little hat Erin made (which we think is adorable and way cool):

So yep, that's where we stand with baby stuff at the mo'. Thanks to my awesome sister. Soooo much of what we needed came from her. Because she rocks that way. We've also got a couple really cute blankets, but I forgot to take pictures of those. Sorry Mom (who sent me my baby blanket that she crocheted way back when), Lindsay (who crocheted E a really pretty brand new one), and Mom Jones (who sent the one she made for baby Chad). Neat huh? :) Next time.

Have a great day!
