Souvenirs

1.31.2012

So Emmett brought back a cold from Texas. His very first one in fact! And then I woke up with it yesterday. And then Chad woke up with it this morning. Cue "whomp whomp" sound. So that kinda stinks. Emmett's been coughing and mucousing all over the place, and now it's Chad's and my turn, minus the cough it seems (thankfully).

This expression describes pretty well how we're all feeling:

But it's just a cold, and Emmett's already looking a lot better. And his cough isn't quite so icky.

On the flip side, Chad got a job! Landscaping with Ace ended right around when Emmett and I went to TX, and Chad's been looking since way before that. He's going to be a sales rep with Cutco cutlery, and don't worry, he's not selling knives door to door. He is going to people's houses to do presentations, but it's only people who've asked for the presentation, and he gets paid whether or not he sells anything. So it's legit :) Thanks for everyone's prayers! Looks like we're going to be ok after all ;)

On another note, I crocheted this cutie for Emmett a while back and haven't showed him off yet:

The pattern can be found here on Lion Brand's website. Gotta say though, I think I messed it up in a good way, 'cause mine is cuter than theirs :) Now I'm working on a little family of mice for him and some goodies for my nieces and nephew.

And one last note, look who's getting up on his hands and knees all the time lately!

He's getting really good at scooting around that way. He's always been good at scooting around, but now he's getting closer to crawling. And he's super close to rolling from his back to his stomach. And he can basically stay sitting up by himself, but we still have to surround him with pillows in case he loses concentration :) A lot happens in that month five I guess.

And he loooooves his solid food. We started those about a month ago, and he jumped on it like a monkey on a cupcake. Or like a little boy who loves his grub.

Have a great day everybody :)

The big TX

1.29.2012

Emmett and I went to Texas! Which means that I finally finally finally got to see my family! I hadn't been since October of 2010. It was soooo nice to finally be able to make that trip. Highlights:

1. Seeing my family (obviously). I got to really meet my brother's little girl. In a word: she is absolutely darling. (ok, 4 words.)

And my dad and Emmett really hit it off. It was so cute to watch Emmett get my dad's attention when he wanted to play (which was pretty much the whole time). It was extra neat because my dad hadn't met Emmett before, and my mom hadn't seen him since he was about a week old.

Highlight #2: I was there for my birthday! That hadn't happened since I turned 21. Now I'm a whopping 26. I know, weirds me out too.

Emmett's first taste of frosting. He's a fan.
Dad talking to Chad :)

#3: Texas is beautiful and it was wonderful to be back. Even the air is better. It smells great, and it feels great thanks the humidity and spring-like weather in January. I missed it the moment I got on the plane :(

All in all, it was a fantastic week. I was great to see my family. Lesson learned: a year and three months is too long. Broke or not, we're not doing that again.

Have a great Sunday!

Christmas!

1.02.2012

Sorry for the blogging hiatus. Emmett doesn't like to sit in front of the computer when I try to blog, so it hasn't been happening. And nap time is far too short to allow for such frivolities ;)

Anyway. Merry Christmas y'all! We had a great one. The week before Christmas, we went down to Mesa to visit Chad's family. Holy moley, it was so nice to remember what 60 degrees felt like. Sigh. I miss that already. But we had a lot of fun :) Emmett did pretty good with the drives. The last couple of hours each way were rough, but overall he did  great. The visit kind of threw him out of whack; lots of noise and fun and commotion = not exactly what our house is like during the day, so Emmett cried a lot and developed the wonderful habit of shrieking at the top of his lungs. That's a fun one. But we all had a good time, and it was nice to see Chad's family again.

We came back on the 23rd to have Christmas at home, and it was so fun. Even though Emmett's way too small to really understand what's going on, Christmas with a baby is whole new experience. And my mom made us these awesome stockings! They're just like the ones I grew up with, and it's really cool to have the same ones, handmade by my mom, for our little family.

Aren't they pretty? Yay :D

Stocking loot rundown:
Emmett: three crocheted monsters, one rattle Oball, four jars of baby food, and a pack of spoons
Chad: Icon, a picture of us hiking when Emmett was around a week old, and lots of candy
Me: Pride and Prejudice (book), yarn needles, and lots of candy

A bunch of pics from Christmas morning:

Emmett's still a little groggy :)

Don't tell Chad I put this one up

Epic drooler

Stocking stuffs

Super soft blanket from Natalie

Presents! The Dr. Seuss book is from Chad's Gma Mc, and it is so cool. Lots of stories. October Sky from my mom and dad. We like that movie :)

Icon is also from my mom, and Chad's wearing the watch I gave him

Left out of the main picture, but probably Chad's favorite from this year
Not in the pictures: Chad's parents gave us a gift pack of President Monson's favorite Christmas stories (The Mansion, A Christmas Carol, and a print-out of the Luke Christmas story), and a bunch of clothes for Emmett, which he'll need shortly. Our 4 month old is just about too big for his 6 month clothes. And my Mom also sent a box with some of my Christmas ornaments, and a bunch of jeans for Emmett. But, what's cool about these jeans is that they're the Wranglers that all of us kids wore when we were little. And now Emmett gets to wear them. So cool :)

And a few more pics of Emmett from Christmas day:

Not from Christmas day, but super cute anyway

Hope y'all had a great Christmas!
