Teething, for real this time

3.31.2012

Emmett's got a teeny little tooth! Or the very beginning of one anyway. There's a little white dot poking up through his bottom gums. I think it came up sometime in the last couple days, but I only noticed it today. Too small to get a picture of yet. Plus when you try to look at it, Emmett sticks out his tongue :)

The weather has been so nice! Yesterday it was 72, and today was 80 I think. (Tomorrow the high's supposed to be 49, but we won't think about that right now.) So last night, we took dinner outside and had a picnic on the lawn.

There's nothin' like trying to get that boy to look at the camera when he doesn't want to. But it was great, and Emmett definitely enjoyed himself. Sticks and passing cars = the zenith of entertainment.

Somewhere down the road...

3.30.2012

It's gonna happen. I've been wanting this for-ev-er, and I've converted Chad! He's whole-heartedly on the homestead boat! Friends, we're going to do it. One day, everything up there will be in our backyard. And front yard, and probably any space that doesn't have house on it.

I'm going to add a page or two to the blog and start putting up all the cool resources we've been finding. Remember how I said that our goals and stuff have been evolving over the past unemployment-months? Well, we've been doing a lot of research. 'Cause that's what you do when you've got time. Time and lots of big ideas.

As promised:

3.28.2012

Here are a couple videos of Emmett crawling. He's 7 months old today! I can hardly believe he'll be a year old in a few months. August doesn't seem so far away. I can't even imagine him walking. Makes my heart hurt a little :)

Emmett really wanted this laundry basket, so it made good bait :)

Pretty cool, huh? He started a week and half out from 7 months. Whoop!

Annnnd our other big piece of news: Chad got the job!
He'll be a satellite dish technician for Dish Network, and he starts training Monday after next. We are so grateful to have this job. It's been a long three and half months, full of learning important lessons. But I'm actually really grateful for this experience. It's drastically changed some of our goals and the way we look at different aspects of life. And we got to spend a lot of time together :)

Anyway, I'll be back soon with more updates. Have a great day!

Guess who's crawling?

3.21.2012

Chad! Just kidding. Emmett started crawling on Saturday!! He went about four feet the first time (going for a book he really wanted), and today he's going all over the place. For the last couple of days it was a combo crawl/army-crawl, but today it turned into mostly crawling with a few belly flops mixed in. Woohoo! So we spent a little time doing some baby proofing today.

Anyway, I'll get a video and put it up soon.

Have a great day!

Sometimes...

I can't stop myself from kissing Emmett. And squeezing him til he grunts.

I want to freeze frame my baby. Not keep him that way, just pause him sometimes. I feel like he’s growing up so fast.

I find it mildly concerning when I wake up to someone screaming. Happened last night, and I’m still not exactly sure if I was dreaming or not. But I haven’t heard of anyone finding a dead body around here, so I guess we’re ok.

I want to soak up all of summer and keep it with me throughout the year. Summer never feels long enough. Guess it's time to hit it rich and move to Hawaii.

I decide to take the plunge and do something brave. But I'm too embarrassed to admit what kinds of things require bravery from me, so that's as far as I'm going.

It really hits me that we’re out of college. If I could do it again, and do just about everything differently. Except marrying Chad. Definitely the highlight of my college experience.

I can't believe how lucky I am when Chad gets up with Emmett in the morning so I can sleep in a little longer. Wonderful man :)

I feel like I never, never, ever want to live in Alaska. Or Kansas. I'd definitely visit Alaska though. Probably.

I feel like a really good person when I can make someone else’s life even just a little better. Wouldn't it be great if we could live on feel-good instead of money? Think of the possibilities!

Rock Canyon

3.07.2012

Monday was a beautiful day. It was 65 degrees. 65! So we went up Rock Canyon. Well, as far as we could go before the snow and ice made us turn back. Which... wasn't actually all that far. But it was great! When we had to turn around, we went up on the Bonneville shore line. Anyway, here are some pics:

Makin a goofy face at Emmett :)

Have a great day!

Teething?

3.04.2012

After the night we just had, I'm pretty sure somethin's up. And he's got a little bump on his gums. And he just got up suuuuper cranky from a way-too-short nap. Poor dear. We're just recooperating from shots at his last appointment, and now I think he's about to sprout a canine. About = in the next couple of weeks maybe? We'll see.

So it begins :)

This is a really good video. Sometimes, I am definitely the lady looking through a dirty window. But there are also times when I feel like the lady hanging laundry. As annoying as it is though, I'd much rather be the second than the first.

Have a good Sunday!

Sometimes...

3.03.2012

Hey guys. Linking up to Young People in Love today.

I watch guilty pleasures like You’ve Got Mail. Holy moley. I’ve seen that movie so many times; there’ve been weeks where I’ve watched it more than once. Kind of embarrassing.

I'm glad it's cold outside because… ok, I’m not glad it’s cold outside. I hate being cold. But, I’m glad that it’s not as cold as it usually is. Thank heaven for a mild winter!

I wish I could just pay someone good money to get the ball rolling with Chad’s app.

I love discovering unexpected movie gems like That Thing You Do and Joe vs. the Volcano. I hated both of them the first time I saw them. Second time around, I must have been in the right mood.

I feel like a 5 year-old when I make a boatload of lemon-glazed cookies as neighbor presents and then Chad and I eat them ourselves before I get around to delivering them. Guess I’ll just have to make another batch!

I feel like it's one of the world's great injustices when …I could list so many things here. 1. When truly loving, kind people get trampled on by loved ones behind their backs. 2. When the cycle of poverty is fueled because education is out of reach. 3. When kindness comes with a price. Something I learned from my Dad: life is about service and charity. There are so few people who understand what that actually means, and my Dad is one of them.

I write a blog post and realize that I need to get out more/take more pictures.

I feel inspired to be a better person when I compare myself with Chad. He is such an exceptional human being and I am so fortunate to have him.

6 month stats

3.02.2012

I'm sure you're all just dying to know where Emmett was at his 6 month appointment, so I'm here with the numbers to tell you!

Length: 27.75" (88%)
Weight: 20lbs 8.5oz (91%)
Head circ: 45 (80%)

His height caught up with his weight over the last couple of months so he's a little more evened out now :) We went to Smith's afterwards and the lady checking us out guessed that he was 10 months old. That was funny. He's big, but I don't think he looks ten months big.

He's not crawling yet, but he can get wherever he wants to.

...and for a couple of days, under the crib was the place to be :)

We finally have our own board game! And this one's pretty cool. Even Emmett loves it.

Chad said Emmett was dying to play with the boxes in the game store, so he gave him some time with Puerto Rico when we got home. Emmett was definitely a fan.

Happy boy!
That's it for now, folks. I'll try to be back soon with more of what's been up around here. Hope y'all are doing well!

Have a great weekend!
