Emmett picture overload... again

4.26.2012

We went to the park yesterday and I took some pictures of Emmett. He looooves being outside, so we had a good time. There were some other, older kids playing nearby, and Emmett loved watching them. He really wanted to go play, and I felt so bad for him! One day soon he'll be able to keep up :)

This isn't the park, but it's pretty indicative of how feeding him has been going lately:

Park:

Talking/hollering. He was having a good time :)

Teeth!

And we also learned the other day that he loves swinging. Like, a lot.

Sorry some of those are blurry. It's hard to take good pictures when he's swinging back and forth.

What a cutie, huh? :D

New tricks:

He learned how to sit down from standing up! That's actually a pretty big deal. We don't have to go in and lay him back down a thousand times a night before he goes to sleep, which is pretty nice.

And he learned to say mama! And maaah and mom. It kind of makes me all gooey inside when he does it. Of course, he usually wants out of bed or for me to do something differently/stop doing something (like picking his nose; he hates that) when he says it, but I'll take it.

And he's got good rhythm. (He'd better, coming from two musician parents ;) The other morning he was playing in his crib before we got up for the day, and he was singing to 4/4 time! He was going: ha ha haaa, ha ha haaa (1 2 3-4) and actually keeping in time! I was so proud :)

Have a great week everybody!

No way!

Life-changing news here, people.

Ever heard of the Pioneer Woman? Pff, dumb question right?

Look at this picture. (Courtesy of her blog)

Guess what.

I have that bowl.

It's not filled with Krispy Kreme's, but it is sitting in my cabinet.

We should probably hang out.

I'm reading her book Black Heels to Tractor Wheels right now, and I love it. Best love story ever. I'm only halfway through, but if the second is as good as the first, then I'd probably recommend it. She's hilarious and a fantastic writer. Warning: being almost solely about how they met, got married, and started a family, it is almost purely love story. And kind of gushy at times. But it's great so far.

Anyway, you should get a bowl like ours. Then you could be in the cool club too.

And one became two

That's right! Emmett's got two teeth now! I didn't even notice the second one til today! Good job me, right? Emmett and I had just gotten back from Walmart when my neighbor and her baby came over to talk while I unloaded the groceries. Emmett was smiling at her, and she said something about how she could see his teeth. Plural. So I looked and, sho 'nough, she wasn't crazy! I was going to put a picture up, but every one I took is a little grotesque. Close ups of drool are never appreciated.

Exciting though, huh? Now I've got to get better at brushing his new teeth. Main problem: he usually falls asleep right after his last bottle. It's like magic. Gonna be hard to give that one up. When we mess up the routine somehow, we usually play the game of:

1. Pat him awhile and sing him a song or two
2. Lay him down, say good night, and go
3. 2.7 seconds later he's standing up, spitting and singing and talking to himself (after he's dropped his bink over the side)
4. In about five minutes, when he's binkless, tired of standing, and can't get himself down, he starts hollerin.
5. Go in, get him put back together and settled down, and say good night again.
6. Repeat about twenty times.

Maybe not twenty. Maybe just three or four before he's too exhausted to keep playing the game.

But Emmett (like his mama) kinda loves brushing his teeth. He laughs and chomps down on the thing and laughs some more. (Not that I get quite the same kick from cleaning my pearly whites... but imagining that I did is a pretty good mental image) I think it tickles his gums. I can actually remember when my mom would brush my teeth when I was a wee one, and it tickled like crazy. Always in the top of my mouth.

And here's compensation for no teeth pictures yet:

He was tired and in no mood for pictures, but some of them turned out alright :)

Have a great day!

ps. Someone's chickens got out today! Walking home from Smith's I saw a Rhode Island Red and a white Leghorn (I think) plus another that I didn't get a good look at foraging around in somebody's bushes. I want chickens so bad!! Did you know that we had chickens when I was younger? Well, we did. And I loved it.
