Thursday Thoughts (or A List of Totally Unrelated Tidbits)

2.28.2013

Good quote for spring, eh? The weather's getting warmer! Which makes me pine for spring and a body that can run again. (Not to mention the springtime baby we're expecting.)

This winter's been hard on Emmett. Actually, I think it's nursery that's been hard on Emmett. Seems like constant colds, viruses, and teething these days.

I went in to wake up Emmett this morning (at almost ten!). His eyes started fluttering as I walked up, and slowly a big, bright grin spread across his face as he saw me. I'm convinced there is absolutely no better way to start the day with your toddler. Beats the last time I woke him up. He was not happy with me.

I finally bought dirt yesterday, which means I'll have some sweet pictures to post soon of my seed-starting adventures. I can't wait for spring!!

Today finds me almost unmotivateable to be productive. I think I'll ignore the sinkful of dishes calling my name a little longer. And the nice, long list of things-to-do-around-the-house that I kind of shuffled into the stack of papers on the desk so I wouldn't see it.

Socks

I started getting my hospital bag together the other day (!!) and realized I don't really have much that I can put away and not use for the next six weeks. This list is a pretty good one if you want a realistic rundown of things you'll actually (mostly) need at the hospital. People (including me the first time around) go way overboard with this hospital bag business. For instance, a lot of people bring movies and games and books for entertainment while they're there. In my experience: any down time you have is spent either staring at the new little wonder in your arms or trying to sleep before the nurses come back in to feel your stomach or take more blood.

I have almost officially handed over the baby naming responsibility to Chad. I just can't handle it. It's stressing me out like none other this time around. Plus we keep shooting each other down on the ones the other really likes, so while I retained my right to veto, the job is now his :)

Emmett is trying more and more words lately, which is really fun.
Banana = Bluhnyah
Water = wwWWWAHWWww (the wind up is the best part)
Car = Gah
And then of course mama and dada, but you have to practically twist his arm to get him to try those :)

If we have the option of moving to Texas in May, I have already put my foot down on going to any lakes in the College Station area. I keep getting pictures like this when I google image the lake names:

Skiing on Lake Conroe!? - HUGE GATOR

no. flippin. thank. you.

Isn't that crazy?! I think I've been pampered here in the bubble in way more ways than one.

Happy Thursday!

The mystery fever solved

2.22.2013

Has anyone else noticed how I spend more time messing with how this blog looks than actually writing on it? I'll work on that.

So Tuesday morning at around 1:30am, Emmett woke up with a fever that fluctuated between 101 and a little over 103 for the next few days. He stopped eating, slept terribly, and became a wellspring of vomit. We took him to his doctor, but ended up just being told to wait it out and keep him hydrated (which, honestly, what else was I expecting to hear?). Then last night a little while after he went down, he woke up... without a fever! and it didn't come back today! And now, low and behold, he's got a leopard-print rash on his stomach. Answer = Roseola. According to WebMD, Roseola's usually a non-issue, but apparently it hit Emmett a little hard.

Anyway, he's doing much better. He finally ate something today, which was the first time since Monday. That also meant that I let him eat anything he would (aka ice cream, crackers, some mandarin orange slices, and a little bit of chocolate muffin). Thankfully though, besides the eating thing, he's back to his normal cute self.

So, just a little update. Now I'm off to wash dishes and make dinner at 8:30 in the evening. I can do that when my husband doesn't get home til nine everyday.

:(

Have a great weekend!

32 weeks

2.15.2013

I have 8 weeks left, y'all. Is that a little bit shocking to anyone else?

I've been so terrible at documenting this pregnancy. I had Chad take my second belly shot the other day, whereas with Emmett we took one just about every four weeks. I hope this little guy doesn't feel too neglected.

Excuse the nasty wooden doors and the weird reflections on my glasses. I'll try to get some pics outside the next time I get to see Chad during daylight hours.

We're still working on a name, but I think we maybe have it now. I'm not going to share on here just yet, though. I've been so wishy washy with names for this boy. The process has kind of resembled a ping pong ball bouncing around in my head. I even considered Bear. Like Bear Grylls.

Yep.

But don't worry, Chad didn't like it. I'll just have to find a way to make that his nickname ;)

In other (pregnancy) news, I have mercifully been able to avoid the wretched swelling that was so characteristic of my last few months during Emmett's pregnancy. I'm definitely chubby, but thankfully not puffy. I think exercise makes a huge difference on that count. I sort of turned into a vegetable last time, but this time I've kept up with lifting weights and biking. Lady friends, don't get lazy if you're having a baby! Appropriate exercise makes such a big difference. Sciatica hasn't even been so much of a problem this time.

Anyway, other news: Emmett has not been the funnest toddler lately. I think he's breaking a couple more molars, and he is not a good teether. I'll be glad to get my baby back when he's through with this set. That baby doesn't hit or scratch or throw earth-shaking tantrums every time he hears 'no.' He's also learned to climb on evvvverything. I've had to pull him down off the kitchen table multiple times in the past few days. And he climbs into his stroller on his own. I pulled it out earlier, went off to do something else, came back a minute later and he was standing in his seat looking over the handles at me :)

And we had birthdays! Happy birthday to us.

Some pictures from lately:

Chad's birthday ice cream. He didn't want a cake :)

Emmett trying on (and stretching out) my latest crocheted masterpiece. I love that hat.

(Those spots on the floor by the oven have been there since we moved in and won't come up. So don't judge me.)

Vday flowers from Chad :) Aren't they so pretty ?! Daisies are my favorite :) And I love the little pink waxies! Adorable. Chad also renewed my Mother Earth News subscription and got me a National Geographic subscription! Woohoo! So with the flowers: Chad said he was going to run to Smith's for a few things. He took Emmett with him, and a while later, the door opened and Emmett came crawling in holding a rose. He ran to me, holding it up. I basically melted into a big puddle on the floor. Chad's so sneaky :)

Oh, and if you guys like Shade Clothing, go online and take advantage of their pres. day sale. Everything is 50% off. I bought four t-shirts yesterday for 18 bucks. And it's always free shipping and returns. Basically you should help me keep them in business. I got my favorite maternity shirts there. And I got a two dollar subscription to House Beautiful for taking a survey about their site after I bought my stuff. (I promise I'm not as much of a magazine junky as I sound like in this post.)

Have a great weekend everyone!
